The Yellow Guppy female, Poecilia Reticulata, has long been a fan favourite in the hobby. Guppies come in a lots of colour strains, ranging from blue to red, yellow to purple, and almost every other colour you could think of. Then there is all the patterns to choose from too!
Guppies are native to North Eastern South America and the Southern Caribbean, covering Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname plus the islands of Trinidad, Barbados and many more. Also, they have been introduced into many different ecosystems in countries on every continent, except Antarctica- they’ve even been found in the UK!
The Yellow Guppy Physical features
Wild guppies are rare in the aquarium hobby, and most fish available are captive bred strains. Wild types are much duller in colour, and do not possess the impressive tails and patterns found in commercially bred guppies.
The Yellow Guppy female is a pretty colour morph with a pale body, and lovely yellow fins. There are variations to this colour morph with the colours sometimes being more subtle, especially in the females.
Fully grown they will reach about 6cm, with the females being slightly larger. The Yellow Guppy, along with other captive strains, are generally more sensitive than their wild counterparts. Because of this they need good quality and stabile water perimeters, and a higher pH of 7.07.5 tends to suit them best.
Guppies are livebearers, meaning that they are extremely easy to breed, and also to sex. Males possess brighter colours and have a gonpodium, a modified anal fin used in reproduction. Females are larger and usually duller, and do not possess a gonpodium. Ideal group numbers are two females to every male, as the males can pester females relentlessly.
Diet
Guppies are technically herbivorous but will accept any foods offered. A good quality flake food designed for livebearers is advised, supplemented with spirulina and frozen foods enriched with garlic and vitamins.
Here at the Abyss Aquatic Warehouse, we believe in only providing the best for our customers. All of our fish are fed a varied diet of dried and frozen foods. Also, we ensure they are in perfect condition before they are shipped out.

Beautiful group of ladies. The picture doesn’t do them justice. They are lemon bodies with yellow tails and have an iridescent sheen. Packaged well all healthy and a decent size.
