Aqua One Oakstyle urban 110. A striking modern colour from Aqua Ones hugely successful aqua oak range of aquarium furniture sets. The 110 in the name refers to the tanks volume in this case 110 litres, that’s usable volume. The tank measures 63cm long, 55cm high and 38cm front to back. It has all glass lids, and the centre piece of glass lifts out for maintenance and to allow the input of rocks, roots, and other décor. Please note that the opening does sometime prevent the placement of large piece of decoration or ornaments. The way that the glass covers fit reduces aquarium access to 45cm x 20cm approx. So, plan ahead if you have your eye on a large piece of wood. You now have the measurements so you can check, or you can always get the saw out.

The heater supplied is a 150 watt standard glass heater thermostat nothing wrong here, good reliable heater although it must be situated inside the tank it can be hidden with ease behind a plant or ornament. To enhance the aesthetics even further you might want to consider a thermo filter, an external filter with an integrated heater.

Lighting

The Oakstyle 110 Urban view off lighting and top trim

The light supplied is Led with 14 watts of power output featuring white & RGB LEDs or all blue selected via rocker switch on the unit. The unit’s good enough to light up the Aqua One Oakstyle urban 110 and has a nice colour so will be fine for fish and décor. If, however you are planning a serious attempt at a planted aquarium you will need to upgrade.

Filtration.

Aqua one 700 Moray filter is a popular cheap as chips internal filter although a bit fiddly to device it does the job.

 

The filter supplied is a Moray 700 and will do its job well. It is however fiddly to maintain and also does little for the looks of this otherwise handsome set. We find most people instore upgrade to a better filter usually an external. This tank deserves an external filter, better at its job and can be tidily tucked away in the cabinet.

There are many similar sized aquariums that are much more expensive and no better that have no equipment included. The filter does work it’s just ugly and not so easy to clean and maintain. The light though basic is just as good as lights supplied with most other aquariums. So, The Oakstyle 100 Urban is a complete and fully functional aquarium set up and all you will need to succeed and enjoy your aquatic adventure are some test kits. We recommend JBL Pro Test CombiSet Plus Iron, German quality and accuracy and there are refills available so cheaper to replenish.

Equipment upgrade for the 110 Aquarium set

We would recommend either an Aqua One Ocellaris 850 or a Eheim EccoPro 130 External for this aquarium. For a planted set up we would recommend the Fluval Plant 3.0 LED or if you want to grow any plant even the difficult ones Then go for the AI Prime 16HD Freshwater LED Light White.

Top Tip when building the Oakstyle 110 Urban cabinet

Just watch that you put the bottom rail the correct way around. You will kick yourself when it’s all done, and you stand back to admire your work and spot your mistake. Also, when fitting the top trim fit the front first, use the sides to centre but, stick them on last. If the sides are slightly proud the long front piece will stick on but may not stay on as at the ends it cannot stick.
