The Lemon Tetra, Hyphessobrycon pulchripinnis, is a stunningly beautiful fish that will add a vibrant burst of colour to any aquarium. These fish are native to South America and are known for their bright yellow bodies, which are offset by a black stripe that runs along their dorsal fin. The coloration of these fish is truly striking and is sure to catch the eye of anyone who sees them.
Lemon Tetras are relatively small fish, growing to a maximum size of around 5 centimetres (2 inches). They are a peaceful species and do well in community aquariums, but should be kept with similarly sized and peaceful tankmates. They thrive in a planted aquarium with plenty of hiding places, such as caves, driftwood, and plants. Lemon Tetras prefer slightly acidic water with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.0, and a temperature range of 23-27°C (73-81°F).
In terms of care, Lemon Tetras are relatively easy to keep and maintain. They are not picky eaters and will accept a variety of foods, including flakes, pellets, and frozen or live foods. They should be fed a balanced diet to ensure they receive all the nutrients they need to thrive.
One interesting fact about Lemon Tetras is that they are known for their schooling behaviour. In the wild, these fish swim in large groups, and they will exhibit this same behaviour in an aquarium setting. Keeping a group of Lemon Tetras will not only be more visually appealing, but it will also help to reduce stress and promote a more natural behaviour for these fish.
In conclusion, the Lemon Tetra is a stunningly beautiful fish that will add a bright burst of colour to any aquarium. These fish are relatively easy to care for and maintain, making them a great option for both beginner and experienced hobbyists. With their peaceful temperament and schooling behaviour, Lemon Tetras are a great choice for community aquariums and will provide endless hours of enjoyment for anyone who has the pleasure of owning them.

Ordering live fish is a bit of a lottery, I have been sadly disappointed in the past, but the Lemon Tetra’s I ordered from Abyss were in great condition, the packaging was so good it took a while to remove the fish, I followed Abyss’s instructions to acclimate them and two days on I have a beautiful shoal in my tank, thanks to the kind people at Abyss.
