Silver Tip Tetra (Hasemania nana) is an active copper-gold tetra with bright white tips on the fins and plenty of movement.
Appearance and natural habitat
In a settled group the fish spend much of their time together in midwater, with short displays and changes of position giving the aquarium constant movement. Keeping enough of their own kind improves confidence, colour and natural social behaviour.
In the wild, this fish comes from the Rio Sao Francisco basin in Brazil. It is associated with smaller creeks and tributaries away from the main river channels. Matching some of that shelter and maintaining stable water helps the fish settle; use the species-appropriate conditions shown below.
Silver Tip Tetra care
- Adult size: up to 5 cm
- Temperature: 23-28°C
- pH: 6.0-8.0
- Temperament: Peaceful community fish
- Group: At least 6; 10 or more reduces fin nipping
- Care level: Easy
Aquarium setup
A planted aquarium with a dark substrate and a generous open swimming area will show the fish at its best. This is an energetic species, so avoid housing it with very slow or delicate long-finned fish.
Use an established filter and introduce the fish only after the aquarium is fully cycled. Regular partial water changes and steady conditions are safer than sudden attempts to adjust pH or hardness.
Feeding and tank mates
Feeding: Offer fine flake or micro pellets as the staple and rotate small frozen foods such as daphnia, brine shrimp and bloodworm.
Compatibility: Any nipping is usually reduced when the fish are kept in a large enough group with room to swim. Suitable companions include other active, peaceful community fish.
Watch the group at feeding time to make sure every fish gets food, particularly when they share the aquarium with faster species. A varied diet, clean water and suitable companions are the best route to strong colour and long-term health.

Would 100% recommend these fish but get a good mix off males and females to get the most out off them
