Barbs

Barbs are a group of tropical freshwater fish from the Cyprinidae family. They’re found all over the world, from Europe to Asia, and even Africa!

The barb family is incredibly diverse, with dozens of shapes, sizes and colour to chose from. They should be kept in groups of no less than five, although ten or more is even better!

Barbs have unfair and undeserved reputation as fin nippers.  In particular, Tiger Barbs are often labelled as trouble makers, chasing and nipping other fish. However, bad behaviour is most often caused by them being housed incorrectly. Usually this is down to not having enough of them. Kept in larger groups their colours and behaviours are beautiful to observe!
