Bronze Corydora, Corydoras Aeneus, is a peaceful and attractive little catfish. Most fish found in the aquarium hobby will be captive bred. Wild Corydoras Aeneus are found in many parts of the Amazon river, from Colombia all the way through to Trinidad!
The body of the Bronze Corydora is a tan colour, with a dark patch on their flanks and a paler belly. There are several different forms found, including albino and long finned variants.
Bronze Corydora are generally an easy fish to care for, providing basic needs are met. They do best on a fine substrate, either sand or micro gravel. Corydoras will root around in substrate looking for food, so sharp substrates can damage the barbels at the front of their mouths. Other décor is largely down to personal taste. Areas of cover will provide security, resulting in more outgoing and active fish.
Corydoras thrive best in clean water with stable parameters. A pH of between 6.5-7.2 is ideal, especially for captive bred fish.
Bronze Corydora are not always easy to sex, especially when young. Females are bigger and more broader-bodied than males, which stay smaller and slimmer. If wanting to breed corydoras, a ratio of one female to two males is ideal. Corydora are a shoaling catfish, and thrive best in groups of 5 or more.
Bronze Corydora feeding requirements
Bronze Corydora are omnivorous in diet and will eagerly accept dried, frozen, and live foods. A good quality protein-based tablet or granule is ideal as a staple diet, supplemented with frozen food enriched with garlic and vitamins. This will ensure good health and vibrant colours. Live food, especially tubifex and bloodworm always goes down well too!
