The Empire Gudgeon, Hypseleotris Compressa, is an incredibly stunning looking species of fish from Australia and southern New Guinea. Fully grown they can reach 10-12cm.

Empire Gudgeon are mildly territorial with each other but not particularly aggressive to other species. Tiny tankmates should be avoided though incase they are seen as a snack. Lots of caves and hiding spaces are ideal and will help prevent any squabbling.

As juveniles they are dull in colouration and extremely hard to sex. In order to end up with a mix of sexes it is best to purchase a large group. As they grow and mature it becomes very obvious as to which are the males! Mature male Empire Gudgeon end up a fantastic colouration made up of oranges and reds. They are very bright and are truly an impressive species to have in a tank.

Empire Gudgeons will tolerate quite a wide range of perimeters, but a pH of 7-7.5 tends to suit them best.

Empire Gudgeon require a varied diet of protein-based foods. They are not fussy eaters and will happily accept dried foods in the form of flakes and pellets, and also frozen foods enriched with garlic and vitamins.

Here at the Abyss Aquatic Warehouse, we believe in only providing the best for our customers. All of our fish are fed a varied diet of dried and frozen foods. Also, we ensure they are in perfect condition before they are shipped out.
